MARYLAND WEAR & CARRY and NRA CCW

Combined Concealed Carry Certification Course

Welcome to the MARYLAND WEAR & CARRY and NRA CCW Combined Certification Course. This intensive, two-day (16-hour) training program combines MARYLAND’S qualification requirements with the concealed-carry principles and training concepts of the NRA CCW curriculum.

The course includes classroom instruction, firearm-handling preparation, and live-fire qualifications. Students will work on safe, deliberate holster presentation, firearm control, and concealed-carry fundamentals.

Cost:

SCCSFA Members: $260

Non-Members: $305

This class is open to SCCSFA Members and Guests.

Please read all course information and equipment requirements carefully before registering. Arriving prepared with the required equipment and foundational skills is essential to maintaining a safe and productive training environment.

1. Prerequisites

To register for this training, all participants must be legally eligible to possess a firearm. This requires the ability to successfully complete federal ATF Form 4473 and pass a standard criminal background check.

Required Skill

Students must be capable of safely drawing a loaded firearm from a holster under instructor supervision

This is not an introductory pistol course. Students should arrive comfortable with their firearm's basic operation and fundamental safety procedures.

Safety comes first. This course emphasizes controlled, deliberate firearm handling—not speed. Students must be able to follow instructor commands and demonstrate safe muzzle discipline throughout all training activities.

2. Required Gear & Equipment Checklist

Students must bring their own operational equipment. Rental equipment is not permitted for state qualification purposes.

Required Documentation

  • Completed MSP 29-14 Certified Qualification Score Sheet – PDF (https://mdsp.maryland.gov/media/477)
  • Bring the form completed in advance, with the instructor signature and instructor credentials attachment left for the appropriate instructor to complete.

Firearm & Carry Equipment

  • Firearm: A clean, functional, well-maintained semi-automatic pistol or revolver.
  • Holster: A quality, rigid outside-the-waistband (OWB) or inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster.
    • The holster must retain its shape when empty.
    • It must securely cover the trigger guard.
    • Soft nylon, generic one-size-fits-all, sticky, and shoulder holsters are not permitted.
    • OWB holsters are preferred for range safety and training.
  • Gun Belt: A sturdy, dedicated gun belt capable of securely supporting the firearm and holster during training.

Important: This course is not a speed-drawing exercise. A smooth, controlled, and safe presentation from the holster is the objective.

Ammunition & Protective Equipment

  • Ammunition: At least 50 rounds of factory-manufactured ammunition. Home-reloaded ammunition is not permitted. The 50-round minimum is required for the live-fire qualification.
  • Eye Protection: Quality, shatter-resistant protective eyewear.
  • Hearing Protection: Appropriate hearing protection. Electronic earmuffs are strongly recommended so students can hear and respond clearly to range commands.

Concealment Garment

Bring a suitable garment for concealment practice during the NRA CCW training modules. Examples include:

  • A lightweight jacket
  • A button-down shirt
  • A heavy vest

The garment should allow students to practice safe, controlled access to their holstered firearm while maintaining appropriate muzzle discipline.

3. MARYLAND WEAR & CARRY Live-Fire Qualification

Students must complete the prescribed 50-round live-fire course of fire using a B-27 target.

4. Student Preparation & Range Safety

Every student is responsible for arriving prepared and following all instructor directions.

Before class:

  • Confirm that your firearm is clean, functional, and appropriate for the course.
  • Verify that your holster securely retains the firearm and fully covers the trigger guard.
  • Bring all required documentation, ammunition, and protective equipment.
  • Wear practical clothing suitable for classroom instruction and live-fire range activities.
