Pro-rated Membership Costs

We've added a new chart to the Membership page detailing how membership costs are pro-rated, depending on which month of the year a new member joins SCCSFA.

The IT Committee Could Use Some Help

SCCSFA's IT Committee could use another member or two. The IT Committee supports the operation of the club by maintaining the office PCs, the firewall for our Internet connection, and our website and mailing list. Skills we need include:

  • Windows XP
  • TCP/IP networking
  • PHPList
  • Astaro Secure Linux
  • PC hardware
  • Networked DVRs

Also, we'd like to migrate the website to a content management system such as Drupal or PHP-Nuke (or something else, we're open to suggestions).

If you have some time to volunteer to help out our club please contact the IT Committee Chairman, Dave Markowitz, davemarkowitz@gmail.com.

Voter ID in PA - Action Requested

Pennsylvania will play a critical role in the 2012 election. We must make the Pennsylvania election a fair and honest election.

HB 934, which requires “proof of identification” for voters in primary and general elections (generally known as “Voter ID”), was passed by the PAState House but is stuck in the State Senate. Please call and email Senator Jake Corman, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and ask him to move HB 934 to the Senate floor for a vote without further amendments. Senator Corman’s Harrisburg office number is 717-787-1377. When you call if the Senator Corman is not available you can ask for Scott who is the Senator’s legislative assistant.

After contacting Senator Corman, please take the following actions:

Contact other members of the Appropriations committee (See the list below). Urge your own State Senator to support HB 934 (voter ID).

It is vital that Pennsylvania have this legislation in place in 2012 for the Primary on April 24, and especially for the General election on November 6.

The Senate is only in session for about five or six days in January, so your immediate attention is requested. Please pass this on to your friends.

PA State Senator contact information below:

To look up your PA Senator on the PA Legislative website use the following
link:

http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/#address

Obtain the phone number from the legislative website and call their office. In addition many PA Senators are on Facebook. “Like” their Facebook page and then you can comment and ask them questions which they will respond to on Facebook.

Look up their email address or ask for it when you call them.

Black Powder Blanket Shoot January 14

The Black Powder Committee will have a match on Saturday January 14, 2012 Starting at 10:30 AM (weather permitting) on the 50yd range. This match is in place of the Brandywine Long Rifles match normally run on this Saturday. We are taking this time slot on their behalf, as they decided earlier in the year to leave this date open on their match calendar.

This match will be a "blanket shoot". There will be no entry fee. Bring an item of interest to a muzzleloading shooter of about $10.00 in value. Here are some ideas:

  • Cast round balls
  • Shooting and/or cleaning patches
  • Ball starters
  • Patch knife
  • Percussion caps or flints
  • Small leather items such as ball bags

Check your shooting bag and if you have an item in good condition that you've not needed to use for awhile, chances are pretty good that there may be someone who could use it. Common caliber items for calibers .36 .40 .45 .50 .54 are best.

The match will be open to all muzzleloaders - modern inline shooters are encouraged to attend!

Open or peep sights (sorry, no scopes).

Patched round ball or modern sabot bullets will be permitted.

Black Powder or Approved blackpowder substitutes permitted.

The match will be limited to 6 relays of 5 shots each instead of our usual 8, as we do expect winter weather to be with us. In the event of snow we will postpone to another more suitable Saturday that will be announced as soon as is practical.

Scoring will be the usual half ball or the best judgement of the shoot-master. Disputes will be handled in the usual manner - ignored with the opinion of the shoot-master as the final arbiter. Targets will be the most miserable and confusing we can find in our collection, just so you can clear your head after Christmas party season!

For more info or to RSVP please contact the Black Powder Chairman at blackpowder@sccsfa.org.
