25 Yard Range Closure Next Week

Please be advised that starting on May 15, 2012, the SCCSFA 25 yard range will be closed for maintenance while the roof is replaced. The 25 yard range will remain closed until the work is completed, but we anticipate finishing and reopening it before the weekend (5/18/12).

Thank you for your understanding while this necessary maintenance is completed.

Second Draft of Revised Bylaws

To our Members,

Thank you for all the information and changes you provided, the key item removed from the bylaws was Article 14, where examination of the Court records on Closure and Liquidation superceded this. In short, no members may gain from the sale of the club. After any final adjustments this month, I will send it to our attorney for review and then have a membership vote. Please reply to president@sccsfa.org and show the line number.

Derek Strine, Club President

Deadline for contact and or submissions is March 26th.

We've added a new chart to the Membership page detailing how membership costs are pro-rated, depending on which month of the year a new member joins SCCSFA.

The IT Committee Could Use Some Help

SCCSFA's IT Committee could use another member or two. The IT Committee supports the operation of the club by maintaining the office PCs, the firewall for our Internet connection, and our website and mailing list. Skills we need include:

  • Windows XP
  • TCP/IP networking
  • PHPList
  • Astaro Secure Linux
  • PC hardware
  • Networked DVRs

Also, we'd like to migrate the website to a content management system such as Drupal or PHP-Nuke (or something else, we're open to suggestions).

If you have some time to volunteer to help out our club please contact the IT Committee Chairman, Dave Markowitz, davemarkowitz@gmail.com.

UPDATE 2/9/12:

Thank you to all who replied. We're now good with respect to people who can help support the equipment at the club but we could still use someone with CMS experience.

We're back!

As you can see, the SCCSFA.org website is now back online. Sometime last Saturday night/Sunday morning, a tree was blown over and took down both the power and Verizon lines to the clubhouse. PECO restored power yesterday and Verizon should be restoring our phone and Internet service shortly.

At last night's membership meeting, the Board of Directors approved migrating the website from a server hosted at the club to an outside hosting company. We're using Hostgator, down in Texas. The new server is located in a proper data center with better backup power and ten redundant Internet connections. Now that the website and email have become the primary means by which the club communicates with its members, we felt it was time to make this move. Hopefully, server outages will now be a thing of the past for SCCSFA.

Ranges Closed Christmas Day

Reminder: All SCCSFA ranges are closed on Christmas Day.

Have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year!

Calendar Fixed

Google fixed the bug in their calendar which caused events to be displayed on the wrong day when the calendar month view was selected. We've changed the default view back to the month view.

Bug in Event Calendar

We are experiencing a bug with our
Event Calendar, which is hosted by Google. If you select the Month view, some events (notably the Brandywine Longrifles shoots and the monthly meetings) are showing up on the wrong days of the week even though the event details are correct. If you select the Week or Agenda view the events are displayed correctly.

Many Google Calendar users are reporting the same issue.

Until Google resolves this we've changed the default to the Week view.

Special Notice Re: Hanging Targets

Due to some members and/or guests shooting up the target frames, supports and overhead baffles, we need to post this:

Do not shoot the 6X6 upright posts or the overhead baffles on the 100yd range nor is anyone to place targets on/over the 4X4 upright posts or 2X4 cross rails on any range target backers. Every shot that impacts these items removes material from them causing an early failure. Anyone caught shooting at these items will be brought in front of the Executive Committee to answer for their actions & may result in not only having to pay for the damage but may also result in permanent expulsion form the Association. Targets are only to be placed on the plywood surface of the backers.

Know your target & what is beyond.

It is the intention of this Association to enforce all of its rules. It is expected that all members & guests be in full compliance of the association's rules & policies.

Each & every member is responsible for enforcement of the club's rules.
